My first batch of salsa for the year!

We were running drastically low on salsa! I canned about 45 pints and several quarts back in 2013, but my husband is a voracious Salsasorus. He would've run out of stock within a year if he hadn't periodically interspersed store bought salsa throughout this past year.

My sister supplied me with a bunch of hothouse tomatoes and peppers, so I whipped out my salsa recipe and got to work. Of course my preference would be to use homegrown tomatoes from my garden, most likely Romas or Amish Paste tomatoes, but free tomatoes are hard to pass up for salsa. If I was only going to eat the tomatoes and not make salsa, I would've passed on the hothouse variety because they're hard, too perfect looking (which weirds me out), and often flavorless. But once you mix enough tomato paste and seasonings to the salsa, it's not that bad!

So did my salsa actually win an award? No, but that's what the label says, so people will believe it. But it is actually the best salsa recipe I ever tried, and I've tried many recipes. This recipe came from my husband's relative and is made by many people in his family now.

New retro Kraft Victory Garden & Salsa Canning Jar Labels

When I was growing up, my mom had a huge garden. My sister and I would help out with planting tomatoes and beans. Planting always seemed like the easy part. At least compared to picking beans which always seemed so back breaking when I was little. We used to watch The Victory Garden on PBS and get lots of tips for the garden.

I wanted to design some different garden labels on Kraft paper that had an authentic vintage feel...something along the lines of the Victory Garden advertisements during WWII. So I came up with these red, white, & blue patriotic Victory Garden canning labels.

New to my shop are From the Victory Garden, The Fruits of Victory, Grow What You Eat, and I/We Put Up. Some families like to preserve together! So you can choose either "Of course, I Put Up" or "Of Course, WE Put Up" on this label.

There's a series of new salsa labels available too that are available in 4 styles: Mild Salsa, Medium Salsa, Hot Salsa, & Fire-Breathing Salsa. Each are color-coded by the style, so either green, yellow, red, & fire.

I also created a new vintage honey bee canning jar label. This can be used on fruits & veggies, not just honey.

New heart shaped canning jar labels & yellow gingham jam jar covers

I just finished several new label designs & added them to the CanningCrafts shop. There are 2 cute gingham heart-shaped labels available in red or blue, and a colorful striped, scallop-shaped label.

Also, I had several requests for yellow gingham jam jar covers, so I added those to my shop too. Gingham fabric cloth covers are now available in yellow, red, & blue!

I have several more scallop shaped designs that I'll be adding to my shop within the next few weeks. I'm working on vintage style labels since the scallop shape seems to lend itself to the vintage look. Look for a customizable Kitchen label in this shape soon...

Lots of new canning jar labels in the shop!

I've been trying to add as many new canning jar labels to the CanningCrafts shop as possible since canning season  will be in full swing before long. I've had requests for more vintage inspired & basic designs, so that's what I tried to concentrate on the past few weeks. I just added Grape Jelly, Embroidery Strawberry,  an Eat Your Veggies retro style lady, and  Honey Bee.
